One thing’s for sure: participants at our Ultimate Pizza Master Class conducted by Priya Bala are unlikely to be ordering from the pizza chains anytime soon. The reason being that they got everything they ever wanted to know about making their own pizza at home.
The joys of making pizza at home are many – from the pleasure of making your own pizza base from scratch, to the flavour and freshness of homemade tomato sauce and the opportunity to be as conservative or crazy as you want to be with the toppings.
Priya showed the enthusiastic group the technique of making the perfect pizza dough, with participants doing their share of the kneading. It was then time for each to make their own mini pizza from the toppings laid out – chicken sausage, corn, grilled peppers, zucchini, caramelized onions, olives, grilled aubergine and more. Everyone had plenty of fun doing this, which is as it should be.
What’s more, they learnt that pizza doesn’t have to be always about tomato sauce and mozzarella. Priya showed participants how to make a pesto topping for a pizza and adding potato slices and cheese for an unusual and delicious pizza. They also experimented with a pizza topped with apple slices and walnuts and it tasted surprisingly good.
Armed with the recipes, suggestions for pizza toppings and little sachets of easy-blend yeast to start them off on their pizza-making adventures, everyone went home happy after a rewarding afternoon.
