Whimsy at Work: We’re Like That Only..

When a restaurant calls itself Likethatonly you’d expect what – quirkiness, irreverence and a sharp attitude? This new space in Whitefield exudes all that and more.
The restaurant is vast and airy, flowing seamlessy around the landscaping that incorporates water bodies and lush foliage. Everything from the casual but carefully selected furniture to the art work makes a statement. I found delightful the bathtub with a running shower and the display of old kettles. Chopsticks rest on brightly coloured dragonflies.
If the design and décor are all fun and light-hearted, Chef Manu Chandra (who conceptualised Likethatonly, along with smart restaurateurs AD Singh and Chetan Rampal) is dead serious about the food. Asian is the theme, but it’s not held back by rules or conventions. Small platters allow you to graze and savour many flavours and textures, while you sip on cocktails from the bar.
Flavours are superlative, whether in the salmon carpaccio with yuzu marinade or skewers of meltingly good pork belly. The anchovies in XO sauce come in a sardine tin, playful and delicious. The sushi is perfect – the asparagus tempura being especially good. From the teppanyanki emerge fabulous grilled tenderloin and mixed mushrooms. You must also try the chicken skin fritters and the range of expertly crafted dimsum. For dessert, indulge in the intriguing white chocolate and avocado parfait. It is perfect.
Likethatonly is a great addition to the eating out scene here. I certainly think it’s worth driving to Whitefield for.
