Summer Food Inspiration | A Boozy Milkshake

image

The single-malt chocolate shake is evil, just pure evil. Have you tried it? We’re not sure yet which restaurants in India serve this, but it sure does get served in a few places in the US, most notably at the Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery in Seattle, WA.

It’s made with dark chocolate that’s been smoked over alder wood and spiked with a shot of Laphroaig scotch, so you get lingering, velvety notes of cocoa and smoke.

Food Inspiration | Cheat’s Cheesecake

by Priya Bala

Break all the rules and make this no-cheese, cheesecake.

image

I’m the sort who likes to make idli batter, pizza dough and paneer from scratch. No convenience foods and instant mixes for me. But once in a while, I turn to a recipe that’s all about cheating on the real method and using short cuts and substitutes.

by Priya Bala

Here’s a chic Mediterranean restaurant that rises above the cliches

It’s not hard to connect Azure with the Mediterranean. For that is the shade of the sea that washes the shores of Italy, Greece, Spain and Morocco, all with rich and distinct culinary traditions. We began with our gourmet strolls downtown.  And then, Indiranagar beckoned with its line-up of new and happening restaurants. Hence, last Saturday’s Jacob’s Creek Gourmet Stroll in Indiranagar.

This was a sell-out crowd, some 30 people ready for a long evening of wine, food and great conversations. With the promise of four fab wines from Jacob’s Creek and paired food at four cool restaurants, it’s not surprising that so many signed up.

Summer Food Inspiration | Quick Recipe for Summer Spring Rolls

by Priya Bala

Wrap up the coolest meal for a summer evening

image

It’s more than just the usual summer-time grouse; this year is infernally hot in Bangalore, hotter than we’ve ever known it to be.  As a consequence, appetites are sluggish and the thought of a hot meal is not the tempting prospect it is in cooler months.

So, there I was, trying to think up a weekday dinner that wouldn’t completely put me off. Which is when I hit upon the idea of fresh spring rolls, Vietnamese-style, or summer rolls as they are also known. I happened to have a packet of rice paper sheets lying in my pantry, one of those things you buy without really knowing when you might be using them. In other weather, these would’ve been turned into deep-fried spring rolls stuffed with minced prawns. But this time, no-cook fresh rolls it would be.
